The latest version 6.6 of the Debian-based Tails, an amnesic incognito live system, has been launched with enhancements supporting new hardware, upgraded components, and fixes to previous issues.
Key updates in Tails 6.6 include better compatibility with recent hardware like graphics and Wi-Fi, improved error detection when booting from a USB for the first time and encountering partition resizing errors, and enhancements to the Additional Software app to avoid crashes during the installation of virtual packages.
In addition, Persistent Storage has been enhanced in this new Tails version by extending the timeout period to 4 minutes when unlocking Persistent Storage before showing an error. It also prevents the Persistent Storage settings from freezing after clicking a documentation link and makes the creation of Persistent Storage more robust on initial USB starts.
Furthermore, Tails 6.6 reintroduces the feature to enable multiple network interfaces, fixes an issue connecting to the Tor network using default bridges, streamlines the Tails Cloner by eliminating the 30-second wait during installation by cloning, and updates Tor Browser to version 13.5.2 and Mozilla Thunderbird to 115.14.0.

Under the hood, Tails remains based on the latest Debian GNU/Linux 12 “Bookworm” operating system series and it’s powered by the long-term supported Linux 6.1 LTS kernel series, which will be supported until December 2026.
