System76 has revealed to 9to5Linux.com a new edition of its Adder WS laptop with Linux, now available with an HX-Class 14th Gen Intel CPU and increased storage capabilities.
Nearly a year has passed since System76 last updated their Adder WS laptop, their first Linux notebook to integrate the NVIDIA 40 GPU series. This included the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070.
The newest version maintains the NVIDIA 40 Series graphics but is now supported by a 14th Gen Intel Core i9-14900HX CPU with 36 MB cache, 24 total cores, clock speeds of up to 5.8 GHz, as well as Intel Iris Xe graphics.
“The era of AI is here, but what’s coming next? To further push performance to its limits, System76 is currently working on updating its laptop series with 14th Gen Intel CPUs. This upgrade has already brought increased clock speeds to the Bonobo WS graphics powerhouse and premium Serval WS laptops,” System76 stated.
The latest Adder WS laptop introduces not only the brand new HX-Class 14th Gen Intel processor, but also offers superior storage up to 12TB M.2 PCIe Gen 4 SSD across three drives. Furthermore, there is an option to customize the laptop configuration up to an impressive 96GB DDR5 RAM.
With regard to connectivity, the features include Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, an HDMI port with HDCP, a Mini DisplayPort 1.4 over USB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type C), a USB 3.2 Gen 1 (Type A) port, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type A) port, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type C) port, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port with Display Port 1.4 (Type C), a 2-in-1 3.5mm audio jack for headphone and microphone, along with a dedicated microphone jack.
The newly launched Adder WS laptop also showcases a 15.6-inch FullHD (1920×1080) matte finish screen that comes with a 16:9 aspect ratio and 144 Hz refresh rate. The laptop also features a multitouch touchpad, a multi-colored backlit chiclet US QWERTY keyboard, a 1.0MP HD camera, a 4-cell Lithium-Ion battery pack 53.35Wh, and a Kensington Lock for added security.
The laptop powered by Linux comes standard with disabled Intel ME (Management Engine). This system includes Coreboot, EDK2, and System76 Firmware Apps, according to System76’s open firmware. Also, it boasts System76’s open-source embedded controller firmware. The laptop has System76’s Ubuntu-based Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS pre-installed, or you can opt for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.
