Nitrux developer Uri Herrera has announced the release of Nitrux 3.8, the latest stable version of this immutable, systemd-free distribution built on Debian GNU/Linux and featuring the KDE Plasma desktop environment.
Continuing its monthly release cycle, Nitrux 3.8 comes with the new Linux 6.12 kernel and enhanced support for NVIDIA users, integrating features like NVIDIA Dynamic Boost and improved device node creation alongside new udev rules for NVIDIA hardware.
This update introduces three new tools: devmem2 for reading and writing memory locations, msr-tools for handling Model-Specific Registers from userspace, and policycoreutils, essential for SELinux operations. Additionally, it provides an OpenRC service that allows MangoHud to display power consumption for Intel processors and introduces a new kernel module for power consumption monitoring on AMD Zen processors.
Nitrux employs the Calamares universal installer for a sleek installation experience, now featuring kernel parameters designed to mitigate clock drift in certain laptops while removing obsolete parameters. The OpenRC service management received refinements as services have been organized into more logical runlevels, optimizing boot time.
Additionally, Nitrux 3.8 ships with updated Flatpak install scripts for popular applications like Steam and LibreOffice. The Broadcom STA driver was also patched to ensure it builds correctly with the new kernel version.
