Nitrux 3.7.1 Released: Embracing Immutable Linux with Kernel 6.11, NVIDIA 565, and Exciting New Features

Uri Herrera has announced the launch of Nitrux 3.7.1, a new snapshot of this Debian-based, systemd-free, and immutable GNU/Linux distribution that is centered around the KDE Plasma desktop environment.

Utilizing the latest Linux 6.11 kernel series, Nitrux 3.7.1 comes packed with enhanced Sysctl settings aimed at improving security and performance. These updates include boosted autotuning TCP buffer limits, an increased maximum number of packets queued for processing, reuse of TIME_WAIT TCP connections, reverse path filtering activation, source routing deactivation, restricted access to kernel pointer addresses, disabling the SysRq key, prohibiting timer migration across CPUs, adjusted dirty page settings to minimize disk I/O access, and much more.

This new version also features an upgraded SDDM login screen configuration, updated base-files package reflecting the Debian base codename to Trixie/Testing, refined desktop settings, and a revamped Calamares installer configuration. This includes support for AMD GCN 2.0 (CIK) GPUs, along with additional security checks for user copy operations, support for Kernel Control Flow Integrity (KCFI), among other improvements.

In this release, several new components have been introduced, including an OpenRC service script designed to detect the Broadcom wireless chip used for wlan0 and automatically select the appropriate driver. There is also a module configuration to disable 40 MHz bandwidth on the 2.4 GHz band for the Broadcom BCM4360 wireless chip when using the proprietary Broadcom driver, as well as firmware for the Broadcom BCM4301, BCM4306/2, and BCM4306 wireless chips.

Nitrux 3.7.1 introduces several new features, including firmware for the Facetime HD (Broadcom 1570) PCIe webcam found in the latest MacBooks, a default configuration file for GameMode, a Bluetooth audio configuration file utilizing the SBC audio codec, 32px and 48px icons for CoreCtrl, as well as KZones, a KWin script designed for arranging windows into designated zones.

For more information regarding the enhancements made in Nitrux 3.7.1, visit the release announcement page. You can download the new version from the official website. If you’re already a Nitrux user, simply update your installations via the NUTS (Nitrux Update Tool System) utility.
