Mozilla Thunderbird 137: Open-Source Email Client Released with Exciting Updates and Changes!

Mozilla Thunderbird 137, the open-source email, calendar, address book, chat, and news client, has been released, bringing bug fixes and improvements to the existing functionality. Notably, this version disables the system tray icon functionality on Linux systems until it is fully operational. Additionally, it introduces support for using file names when storing mail folders on Windows.

While Thunderbird 137 does not launch any new features, it includes a splash screen promoting user donations to support its development. Among the bugs addressed in this release are issues with in-app notifications in high contrast mode, missing edit menu entries in the "Grouped by sort" view, and the “Undelete” function mistakenly performing “Delete” for mixed message selections within IMAP folders.

The update improves the handling of RSS feeds, allowing users to use the space bar for message scrolling, and resolves performance issues related to opening .eml files in large profiles. Furthermore, it enhances the Threaded search view for proper date sorting and addresses visibility issues with IRC channels upon restart.

Other fixes include correcting MIME types for forwarded messages as attachments, resolving crashes during searches at shutdown, and issues related to the import of OpenPGP public keys containing whitespaces. Users will also find improvements with opened attached signed OpenPGP .eml messages and enhancements to the message security panel strings.

Starting from this version, crossposting news articles across newsgroups on different servers is possible, alongside some visual and UX improvements, as well as various bug and security fixes.

For further details on the changes, you can check the release notes. Thunderbird 137 can be downloaded from the official website as a standalone binary package for compatibility with virtually any GNU/Linux distribution.
