Fwupd 1.9.17 was released today, presenting an updated version of the open-source Linux firmware upgradation utility. This update seeks to boost support for various new devices, along with serve a number of bug fixes.
With a timeline of two weeks following the fwupd 1.9.16 release, the freshly launched fwupd 1.9.17 brings to table support for devices such as Asus DC201 dual 4K USB-C dock and the Realtek Gen1 RTS541x HUB controllers.
This particular release fixes a variety of bugs, including inadvertent addition of a rather generic instance ID to CrosEC devices, prevention of reading OptionROM verification data on Apple devices, detection of a CCGX dock disallowing downgrade, signalling when a user request is no longer valid, and an improved display of the SPDX project licenses, executed by using AND as a delimiter.
Other fixes include tackling a potential crash which happens during the parsing of invalid CBOR data, along with an issue where the status of the capture device alters while in bootloader mode. Additionally, fwupd 1.9.17 modifies the systemd SystemCallFilter to an allowlist, also offering support to verify the correct filtration of syscalls at the start-up moment.
