KDE Plasma 6.2.5 Released: Closing the Chapter with Essential Bug Fixes

Today, the KDE Project rolled out KDE Plasma 6.2.5, marking the fifth and final update in the KDE Plasma 6.2 series, which focuses on bug fixes. This release comes a little over a month after KDE Plasma 6.2.4 and aims to resolve various issues.

Among the key fixes, the update addresses a crash in System Settings that occurred when connecting a mouse while on the Mouse page, a recurring crash in Powerdevil, and a significant bug that rendered the lock screen black for X11 users. There were also improvements to the KWin window and composite manager, ensuring better stability when using certain non-Intel GPU drivers.

Furthermore, KDE Plasma 6.2.5 corrects an overlap issue in KRunner’s search feature where placeholder text and the typed text would clash. The notification positioning problem, which arose after dragging desktop widgets, has been rectified as well. KDE developer Nate Graham highlighted that outdated System Tray widget settings in the Plasma config file caused many of these notification issues, which have now been resolved.

Additional fixes include resolving a black screen glitch that appeared when moving the mouse pointer just before lock, visual inconsistencies in the Plasma Discover package manager, and a misplacement of application menus activated from the window titlebar under specific circumstances.

The update also brings improvements for the "Persistent keepalive" setting in WireGuard VPNs, enhancements in recording specific windows using Spectacle and OBS Studio, and adjustments that allow for better handling of image pastes from Plasma notifications into sandboxed applications. Moreover, Plasma System Monitor’s CPU usage has been significantly reduced, and KWin’s resilience against poorly formatted HDR metadata has been improved to prevent crashes.

Users are encouraged to check the full changelog to explore the complete list of changes. It’s advisable for users to update their installations to benefit from a more stable and reliable KDE Plasma desktop experience.
