KDE Frameworks 6.11 Introduces Enhanced Search with New Providers for Nix Packages, Docker Hub, and More

The KDE Project has announced the release of KDE Frameworks 6.11, which continues the series of monthly updates for this essential collection of over 70 libraries that provide commonly needed features for KDE applications and the KDE Plasma desktop environment.

With this release, users can now utilize new search providers in KRunner and KRunner-powered search fields. Notable additions include search capabilities for Docker Hub, Nix Packages, and Mozilla Developer Network.

Another significant improvement is the ability to undo changes made to the text in filename fields during open/save dialogs in KDE applications. In addition, the release introduces enhancements for keyboard navigation and accessibility, particularly in the Plasma Discover package manager and the Kirigami UI components, which will also be available in the upcoming KDE Plasma 6.4 desktop environment.

Enhancements in the Dolphin file manager’s Places panel now allow the current location’s custom icon to be automatically populated when users manually add items. Furthermore, items added to the Places panel will default to a global setting, allowing them to appear in other KDE applications.

The Kirigami.LinkButton UI element has been updated to reflect an appropriate color when pressed in applications such as Plasma Discover and Welcome Center. Additionally, an “arrow pointing out of a square” icon has been added to external web links in Kirigami-based applications to improve clarity.

KDE Frameworks 6.11 also standardizes all close buttons to display a black "X" for consistency and updates the timeout indicator on Plasma notifications to be independent of the close button icon.

Several bugs have been fixed, addressing issues in dialogs, widget rendering, and focus management within open/save dialogs across KDE applications. The release also reinstates the ability to copy files and folders on the desktop using the Ctrl+C shortcut and repairs a button in the Properties dialog for desktop symlinks.
