GParted Live 1.7 has officially launched, introducing exciting new features including experimental support for the Bcachefs file system, specifically for single device file systems. This release, which comes nearly a year after GParted 1.6, also enhances its capability to recognize Network Block Devices (NBDs) and adds a new mechanism that helps prevent GParted from inadvertently starting LVM volume groups.
In addition to these features, GParted 1.7 improves compatibility with exFAT partitions by utilizing updates from exfatprogs 1.2.3 or later. The new version increases the required libparted library version to 3.2 and addresses a bug that could cause a hang during partition searches if btrfs-progs wasn’t installed. It also updates its continuous integration jobs for various distributions, including Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and Rocky Linux 8, and fixes an issue where USB keys displayed incorrect serial numbers.
Alongside GParted 1.7, GParted Live 1.7 has been released, based on the Debian Sid repository with the Linux 6.12 LTS kernel. This version allows users to leverage the latest features of GParted 1.7 from a USB flash drive without installation.
For those looking to use GParted Live, it now includes new packages in the live system such as bcachefs-tools and bcache-tools to support the experimental Bcachefs feature, along with util-linux-extra for commonly used interactive tools.
