The GNOME Project announced the release of GNOME 46.4 today, marking the fourth update in the GNOME 46 “Kathmandu” desktop environment series. This update includes a range of improvements, bug fixes, and updated translations.
Arriving one month after GNOME 46.3, version 46.4 enhances connectivity to WPA2 enterprise networks, addresses glitches in the looking-glass effect, updates the Persian on-screen keyboard layout, improves the overview startup notification and keyboard navigation in app folders, as well as nested popovers on Wayland.
The GNOME Control Center, also updated to version 46.4, brings minor fixes across various settings panels including Accessibility, Apps, Network, Privacy, Users, and WWAN. Additionally, the GNOME Remote Desktop has been updated to the same version to appropriately manage invalid x224Crq data and correct a file descriptor leak.
Epiphany, the GNOME Web browser version 46.3, now disables Firefox Sync, ensures that new windows open as non-incognito by default, refines the application mode when “always start in incognito mode” is activated, and resolves several crashes.
Evince 46.3.1 document viewer is now part of this release, featuring advanced detection of non-seekable files and adjustments to avoid loading those files directly. Additionally, the GNOME Music 46.1 music player is updated with enhanced search capabilities, better handling of incorrect image formats, and various other corrections.
GNOME Software 46.4 addresses issues with formatting when incorporating “<code>
” tags in AppStream metadata. GNOME Online Accounts 3.50.4 now facilitates editing details for Exchange accounts during re-authentication processes and ensures proper saving and resetting of settings for TLS certificate errors. GNOME Bluetooth 46.1 includes a fix for a previously identified issue with broken device icons.
Additionally, the inclusion of GNOME Builder 46.3 brings features such as ignoring the Codespell plugin when spellchecking is disabled, restoring focus to the editor post-document formatting, integrating Swift-format plugin to leverage the build pipeline for SDK tooling identification, enabling Terminal to verify ctrl mask for ctrl+click to open links, and enhancements to both Clang-format and Xml-pack plugins.
Visit the release announcement page to discover all the new features and updates in GNOME 46.4. This version is now accessible in the stable repositories of various GNU/Linux distributions. If you are a GNOME 46 user, it’s recommended to update your system promptly.
