Garuda Linux has announced the release of its latest version, “Broadwing,” which showcases significant updates across its editions, including the introduction of a new Welcome app called Garuda Rani (Reliable Assistant for Native Installations). This app aims to simplify and enhance the experience for new users by merging the functionality of existing Welcome, Gamer, and Assistant apps.
The new release is powered by the Linux 6.13 kernel and features a fresh edition named Garuda Mokka, offering users a visually appealing Catppuccin-themed KDE Plasma desktop environment. This edition aims to provide a cohesive and elegant design that enhances the overall user experience.
In addition, the “Broadwing” release includes updates to the dr460nized (KDE Plasma) edition that integrates the Panel Colorizer tool, enabling users to customize their desktop’s appearance easily.
Enhancements have also been made to the Garuda Linux Hyprland edition, which now includes an updated screenshot script for a more intuitive capture experience, new workspace functionalities, and added compatibility with older systems through X11 as a secondary GDK backend.
Other editions, such as i3 and Sway, have also seen improvements. The i3 edition now supports FontAwesome for a more enriched appearance, alongside better CPU temperature displays and tweaked font settings. The Sway edition introduces a new greeter and lock screen along with a revamped Waybar.
