Fwupd developer Richard Hughes released today fwupd 1.9.24 as the latest stable version of this open-source utility for updating device firmware on Linux-based operating systems.
Fwupd 1.9.24 seems to be a minor update that includes support for capsule-on-disk for Dell systems, enhances the capability to update firmware on additional MediaTek scaler devices, and introduces support for upgrading the firmware of Parade USB hubs.
This version also resolves the VLI USB 3 private flag registration issue, prevents the selection of known recovery partitions when choosing an ESP volume, and eliminates the reuse of the connection cache which improves the Redfish BMC restart mechanism.
Coming two weeks after version 1.9.23, fwupd 1.9.24 addresses a previous regression in fwupd 1.9.22 that impeded correct device probing and added a new approach to ensure more reliable responses when flashing usi-dock devices.

However, it is highly recommended that you install fwupd from the software repositories of your GNU/Linux distribution.
At its core, fwupd is a system daemon designed to allow session software to update firmware on supported devices. It aims to make updating firmware on Linux-based operating systems automatic, safe, and reliable.
Fwupd is configured by default to download firmware from the Linux Vendor Firmware Service (LVFS). It’s a command-line program that you will have to use from a terminal emulator or virtual console to upgrade the firmware of your devices, but there’s also an official GUI called Firmware that you can install from Flathub.
