CoreELEC 21.1 Just Out: Elevates Kodi Experience with Advanced Hardware Support and 3D Playback Capabilities

CoreELEC 21.1 ‘Just enough OS’ or JeOS, a Linux distribution built specifically for Amlogic devices and leveraging the respected Kodi media center software, has been launched featuring greater hardware compatibility and new features.

This release, grounded in the newly updated Kodi 21.1 “Omega”, embraces extended hardware support for additional Amlogic equipment including Ugoos AM8 (Pro), Ugoos SK1, Tencent Aurora 5X, X96 X10, and Kinhank/Orbsmart G1. This makes it possible for users of these models to deploy CoreELEC and harness an enhanced Kodi experience.

Furthermore, CoreELEC 21.1 enhances connectivity by supporting S928X and S5 Amlogic SoCs, as well as wireless enhancements with the addition of AP6275P, RTL8852BE, and RTL8761BU Wi-Fi cards. It also introduces PCIe Wi-Fi across all compatible devices and incorporates a Gigabit driver beneficial for devices utilizing JLSemi chips.

Additionally, this version introduces extra capabilities including support for Amlogic IR transmitters, 3D playback, and MVC frame packaging, alongside customized support for both (F)TAB and (F)SBS on devices equipped with the hdmitx20 driver.

Some core packages have been updated as well, including the Samba file and printer sharing software to version 4.19.6, GStreamer multimedia framework to version 1.24.2, Mesa graphics stack to version 24.0.5, x265 encoder to version 3.6, Docker containerization software to version 26.0.1, and libarchive archiving library to version 3.7.3.

Under the hood, CoreELEC 21.1 is powered by Linux kernel 6.6.26 LTS. This release builds on the major CoreELEC 21 release that introduced Dolby Vision support for certain Amlogic devices like the Homatics/Dune R 4K Plus, RockTek G2, and Nokia 8010.

CoreELEC 21.1 is available for download as dedicated images for your supported Amlogic device, including Khadas VIM1S, Khadas VIM4, Libre Computer LaFrite, Libre Computer LePotato, ODROID-C4, ODROID-HC4, ODROID-N2, ODROID-N2L, Radxa ZERO, and Radxa ZERO 2, as well as generic images, from the project’s GitHub page.
