Calibre 8.2, released by developer Kovid Goyal, is the latest stable version of the open-source ebook management software available for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows. This update includes significant enhancements and bug fixes.
A key feature of this release is the updated Kobo driver, which now supports the new Tolino firmware. Additionally, Calibre 8.2 addresses an issue where the Kobo renderer would overlook hyphenation and extra CSS within KEPUB files.
Moreover, the Kindle driver has been improved to allow users to set the value of * in the Preferences under Output options for MOBI Output, ensuring that all books sent to a Kindle device are marked as personal documents. Other enhancements include fixing incorrect encoding detection in KEPUB outputs for HTML files lacking encoding declarations and improving the E-book viewer to display error messages for invalid nearby search expressions.
MacOS users will find fixes for opening book folders or PDF files that have square brackets in the title and resolutions for a regression issue from Calibre 8.1 that disrupted the E-book viewer when updating annotations for extensively annotated books.
Calibre 8.2 also refines multiple news sources such as The Economist, Reuters, and Private Eye. Shortly after the initial release, Calibre 8.2.1 was launched to resolve an error encountered when formatting links were clicked in the Book Details panel.
