One of the main features of Calibre 8.0 is its enhanced Kobo integration, enabling users to natively edit, view, and convert KEPUB format files. Additionally, books can now be automatically converted from EPUB to KEPUB format when sent to Kobo devices. The update also accommodates the latest firmware for Tolino devices.
In response to user feedback, Calibre now includes a new option in the Book details section that allows users to suppress author search links. Moreover, users can conveniently move multiple selected items in the Table of Contents and connect to folders as if they were USBMS-based devices. This feature could especially benefit Chromebook users where USB devices are accessed as folders.
Calibre 8.0 improves usability by matching prefixes every time a period is used when completing names for fields with hierarchical data in prefix mode. It also aligns with Apple’s style recommendations by displaying Calibre application icons with a white frame in the macOS dock.
The update addresses multiple bugs, including a regression affecting tabbing functions in the book list, issues with renaming authors containing commas, and a bug preventing the e-book viewer from closing properly on interrupt signals. Additional fixes for catalog generation templates, full-text search indexing, and metadata reading also enhance performance and functionality.
