Mixxx 2.4, the innovative, free and multi-platform DJ software that offers all the necessary tools for live mixes, has landed today as a major upgrade encompassing significant new features and enhancements.
Having been in development for over three years, Mixxx 2.4 introduces key additions. These include the option to store loops as hotcues (“Saved Loops”), a designated Sync leader, a revamped controller mapping script engine that supports ES2016, and the innovative “all-shaders” scrolling waveforms that enhance GUI performance across all platforms.
The Music Library’s Tracks Table & Track Menu now offers the feature to remember track selection when switching across library features, the ability to override analysis settings relating to variable and constant BPM on a per-track basis, an added feature to lookup track metadata on Discogs, SoundCloud, and LastFM, and a menu for Analyze and Reanalyze.
Moreover, the Music Library’s Sidebar & Searchbar has been improved with features to save search queries across restarts, offering support for search in Browse & Recording views, improved handling of keypresses, enhanced presentation of the History library tree, and support for viewing recent searches in a drop-down menu from the search box.
With the update to Mixxx 2.4, the Music Library’s backend and database have received significant improvements. The support for iTunes and Rekordbox services has been elevated, along with the addition of support for exporting crates, playlists, and the entire library to Engine Prime and Denon standalone controllers. Furthermore, it’s now possible to search for related tracks in the collection and the database can be automatically analyzed and optimized.
In addition to these enhancements, Mixxx 2.4 supports m4v files, offers improved FAAD2 and MP3 decoding, bolsters the AAC encoder, and introduces Modpug and Wavpack support on macOS. There are also advances in ID3v2 parsing and new halve/double controls for beatjump size. The update also retains the active (regular) loop when exiting the Slip Mode.
Additional improvements include an upgrade to the Linux launcher, integration for NixOS, compatibility with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish) and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat), improved Wayland support, and ARM builds for macOS on M1/M2 Apple Silicon hardware. As a bonus, experimental iOS support has also been initiated.
On top of that, Mixxx 2.4 adds a track color selector, adds an option to keep the deck playing when loading a track, improves the quality indicator for Vinyl control, adds Noise, Pitch Shift, and Distortion effects, adds background color for quick cover art preview, and adds many improvements to skins and Auto DJ.
Controller support has been enhanced with new mappings for Hercules DJControl MIX, Pioneer DDJ-FLX4, Traktor Kontrol S4 Mk3, Traktor Kontrol Z1 HID, and Yaeltex MiniMixxx, as well as updated mappings and improvements for Behringer DDM4000, Hercules DJ Console RMX, Korg nanoKONTROL2, MAudio Xponent, Novation Twitch, Novation Launchpad, Numark DJ2GO2 Touch, Numark MixTrack Pro 3, Roland DJ-505, Traktor Kontrol S2 MK1/MK2/MK3, and Traktor Kontrol S3.
Last but not least, Mixxx 2.4 updates the Waveforms and GL Widgets with a new VSsync mode driven by a phase locked loop, full GLSL shader-based waveforms, vumeters, and spinnies, 60 Hz waveform refresh rate by default, a new “RGB Stacked” waveform, improved support for AMD GPUs, as well as improved rendering of waveform marks.
