AMD Unveils AMDGPU Composition Stack: A New Fork of Wayland’s Weston Compositor for Linux Desktop Enhancement

• Host AMD-specific code that cannot be merged into the Weston mainline due to its emphasis on AMD hardware.
• Function as a comprehensive open-source platform for AMD’s commercial solutions and products.
• Store in-house software tools (like performance tweakers, multimedia players, and 3D games) for future development.

The ACS introduces several initial features, including:

• Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and FreeSync support.
• Multi-Presentation Object (MPO) using underlays.
• Enhanced Color Management with wide gamut support.
• An ACS media player application.
• Fullscreen HDR video playback.
• Multi-seat configuration support.
