PeaZip has unveiled its latest version, PeaZip 10.3, which offers substantial improvements in integration with GNOME and KDE Plasma desktop environments. This release brings an automation feature for context menu integration, enhancing the user experience for both desktop environments.
The update follows closely behind PeaZip 10.2 and includes modernized Qt 6 binary packages, alongside the introduction of a new Tux-Alt theme tailored for Linux systems. Notable enhancements include better support for TAR archives, allowing users to limit the maximum archive size, which can help avoid lengthy operations. The update also facilitates the saving of file lists and search results in various formats like CSV, TSV, or TXT.
Among other improvements, this release enhances the handling of archives with errors, improves the archive creation and extraction screens, and optimizes the display of progress information. Users will experience better management of non-ASCII characters in archive passwords as well.
PeaZip 10.3 also introduces support for various file types, including VMware OVA files and Minecraft archives (.mcaddon, .mcmeta, .mcpack, .mcproject, .mcstructure, .mctemplate, .mcworld), boasting a total of 242 supported file extensions. Additional features simplify user interaction by making functions like the smart new folder toggle more accessible within the app’s interface.
Technically, PeaZip 10.3 incorporates the Pea 1.23 backend and updates to the project components, enhancing optimization and debugging. Users should notice a reduction in startup time by approximately 25% and a 20% decrease in memory usage.
