MangoHud 0.8 Released: Enhanced Intel GPU Support and Improved Wayland Keybinds for Linux Gaming

After a brief testing phase, the Linux performance overlay MangoHud has officially released version 0.8.0, introducing a number of new features and fixes to this popular open-source project, which also powers the built-in overlay on the Steam Deck.

The latest release does not significantly deviate from its beta version, but it expands the application’s blacklist to prevent it from appearing in troublesome programs like the Ubisoft Store (UplayWebCore.exe), halloy (IRC client), and the Plutonium Launcher (plutonium.exe, plutonium-launcher-win32.exe).

A few notable improvements in this release include:

Bug Fixes

  • The read_cfg function was not correctly overwriting configuration options.
  • Logging would occasionally crash if an empty vector was returned.
  • Fixed double-logging of average FPS.
  • An nvidia warning if both nvml and xnvctrl were unavailable.
  • Resolved issues with the mangoapp not properly responding to hide/show commands.
  • Added missing dependencies for OpenSUSE.
  • Improved vsync implementation.
  • Refactored FPS calculation metrics.
  • Fixed incorrect displaying of various metrics in horizontal mode.

New Features and Changes

  • Multi-GPU Support: MangoHud can now display multiple GPUs.
  • Improved Error Logging: Logger errors have been changed to debug.
  • Added CPU Power Measurements: CPU power usage is now logged.
  • Refined Memory Usage: Memory usage reporting has been realigned with other apps.
  • OpenGL Shim: Preloaded before the OpenGL library, ensuring an OpenGL context exists to hook before MangoHud loads.
  • Intel GPU Support: Integrated and discrete Intel GPU support (i915 and XE drivers) has been added, with temperature readings available on Linux kernel 6.13 and above.
  • Process-Specific VRAM and GPU Usage: VRAM and GPU usage statistics are now reported on a per-process basis rather than globally.

Additionally, users can expect various new parameters to customize their reporting, such as network_color, gpu_list, and proc_mem.
