Mixxx 2.5 has been launched as a Christmas present for DJ enthusiasts looking for robust open-source and cross-platform software for live mixing. This release, which follows the previous version 2.4.2, introduces a port to the latest Qt 6 framework, enhancing the application’s aesthetic, performance, and compatibility.
Among the notable features in Mixxx 2.5 are a beatloop anchor for adjusting loops, a Rate Tap button, and the capability to save and restore regular loops when toggling rolling loops. Users can also undo the last BPM/beats change and directly edit track titles and artists in the decks with a double-click action. Additionally, new effects like the Compressor and Glitch have been included, along with an Audio Unit (AU) plugin backend for macOS.
The update also brings improvements in controller mappings for devices such as the Denon MC7000, Numark Scratch, Pioneer DDJ-FLX4, and Traktor Kontrol S4 MK3, enhancing user experience and interaction. The MIDI for light feature has been upgraded with a new active deck heuristic, optimizing the graphical UI for better settings control.
