Debian 12.7 “Bookworm” Release: 55 Security Updates and 51 Bug Fixes Unveiled

The Debian Project today declared the availability of Debian 12.7, a new ISO update for the latest Debian GNU/Linux 12 “Bookworm” operating system series.

Arriving two months after Debian 12.6, this release marks the sixth update to the Debian Bookworm series. Notably, the sequence skips a third iteration, as Debian 12.3 was never released. The update includes the Linux 6.1 LTS kernel, which is set for support until December 2026.

Debian 12.7 incorporates all software updates and security patches that have been made available since the release of Debian 12.6, providing a fresh and up-to-date installation media for users installing Debian 12 Bookworm on new hardware, eliminating the need for numerous additional downloads post-installation.

Specifically, the release of Debian 12.7 comprises 55 security updates and 51 bug fixes across various packages. For detailed information about these updates and fixes, refer to the release announcement page.

Debian 12.7 installation images are available for multiple hardware architectures, including 64-bit (amd64), 32-bit (i386), PowerPC 64-bit Little Endian (ppc64el), IBM System z (s390x), MIPS 64-bit Little Endian (mips64el), MIPS 32-bit Little Endian (mipsel), MIPS, Armel, ARMhf, and AArch64 (arm64).

Debian 12.6 live images are currently provided for 64-bit systems with preinstalled desktop environments such as KDE Plasma 5.27.5 LTS, GNOME 43.9, Xfce 4.18, Cinnamon 5.6.8, MATE 1.26.0, LXQt 1.2.0, and LXDE 0.10.1. A “Standard” live ISO image is also available without any graphical environment for those who prefer it.

In other news, the Debian Project has launched Debian 11.11, an update to the Debian GNU/Linux 11 “Bullseye” operating system series. This release incorporates 50 bug fixes and 27 security updates, all vital for maintaining system integrity. Comprehensive details about these updates can be found here.

Existing Debian Linux users who haven’t updated their installations should update as soon as possible by running the commands below in a terminal emulator or virtual console. Of course, you can also use a graphical package manager like Synaptic Package Manager to update your Debian Bookworm installation.

sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade
