Zbigniew Konojacki, the developer behind 4MLinux, has officially released the 46th stable version of the streamlined Linux distribution, which utilizes the JWM window manager. 4MLinux 46 arrives over five months subsequent to 4MLinux 45, and this iteration integrates the 4MServer edition into the main distribution. This integration permits users to effortlessly establish a minimal HTTP/FTP server using prominent technologies like BusyBox, Apache, MariaDB, PHP, Perl, Python, and Ruby, all without the need for a separate ISO download.
This version is powered by the Linux 6.6 LTS kernel and includes the Mesa 24.0.4 graphics stack. Notable enhancements in 4MLinux 46 include additional file type support such as RAW images from digital cameras encompassing formats like CRW/CR2, NEF, RAF, and DNG, and support for Windows Enhanced Metafiles (EMF). Furthermore, it introduces new applications, such as DVDAuthor, VCDImager, and qv4l2, and enhances compatibility with vintage audio formats from systems like Amiga and Commodore. This release also brings the classic GNU Go game into the 4MLinux GamePack and adds compatibility with the latest GTK 4 toolkit to facilitate modern applications.
Updated default apps in 4MLinux 46 include LibreOffice 24.8, AbiWord 3.0.5, GIMP 2.10.38, Gnumeric 1.12.57, Mozilla Firefox 124.0, Google Chrome 128.0.6613.84, Mozilla Thunderbird 115.12.2, Audacious 4.4, VLC 3.0.21, SMPlayer 24.5.0, and Wine 9.12.
