KDE Plasma 6.1.1 Desktop Environment Released: A Deep Dive into the Latest Bug Fixes

The KDE Project has announced KDE Plasma 6.1.1, marking the first of five updates aimed at resolving issues within the latest KDE Plasma 6.1 desktop environment series.

Released just a week after KDE Plasma 6.1, this update addresses several bugs. Notably, it fixes a bug where desktop files dragged to another screen in a multi-monitor setup would disappear until the Plasma session was restarted. This bug also previously caused crashes when dragging files from the desktop to some folders in the Dolphin file manager, which has now been corrected.

The update also resolves issues with the Cube effect for better reliability, improves compatibility for the Zoom effect and ICC color profiles, ensures the Shake Cursor effect works consistently regardless of global animation speed, and fixes a visual regression in the Glide effect.

Furthermore, KDE Plasma 6.1.1 enhances support for XWayland apps, preventing them from freezing during slow window resizing—especially when a scaling factor is used.

Moreover, KDE Plasma 6.1’s first point release improves the new zoomed-out Edit Mode to prevent a Plasma crash when moving non-center-aligned panels to a different screen edge. It also improves support for Plasma widgets dragged while in the new zoomed-out Edit Mode to connect to the pointer, as expected.

Among other noteworthy changes, KDE Plasma 6.1.1 fixes a visual regression with Plasma Discover’s “still looking” busy indicator when performing a search after launching the app and fixes a visual glitch with the text in the center System Monitor’s pie charts to no longer overflow when it’s very long.

On top of that, KDE Plasma 6.1.1 improves the Region & Language page in System Settings to display the correct paper size for users using Metric units with the US Letter paper size (e.g. Canada), and adds support for waking up a sleeping screen using a stylus.

Last but not least, this release fixes a bug that could break the point when it’s moved right after the screen locks to make the screen unlock immediately and improves the robustness of the screen locker against failure in a few more cases.

Check out the full changelog for more details about the issues fixed in this first KDE Plasma 6.1 update. Meanwhile, keep an eye on the stable software repositories for the KDE Plasma 6.1.1 packages and update your installations as soon as they’re available for a better Plasma desktop experience.
